Lisa Olivarez is best known for her expressive, colorful landscapes painted in pastel, oil, and acrylic.  Drawing inspiration from her environment Olivarez translates the inherent beauty and complexity of nature with energetic strokes and kinetic brushwork.  She frequently looks for excuses to use exaggerated color, pushing the image to the brink of abstraction.

Olivarez is particularly inspired by the work and life of late Detroit icon Gilda Snowden who had a strong impact on her while a young art student in Detroit.  She holds a B.F.A. from Wayne State University where she studied formal painting techniques under Robert Wilbert and Tom Parish.  Lisa continues to develop her artistic practices in workshops and has participated in artist residencies in the US and Greece.  Her studio is surrounded by nature and sits just west of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
